A Brief History of
Christ Moravian Church
Christ Church began in 1893 as a Sunday School
serving the growing community of West Salem and was formally
organized as a local congregation on October 25, 1896 with the cornerstone for Christ Moravian Church
being laid July 21, 1895.
The structure was consecrated July 18, 1896 and the consecration
sermon was based on I Kings 8:29. Construction on the current
west wing or church school building began in 1919. The
Fellowship Building was completed in 1948. The church
parsonage is located just across the street from the church.
Christ Moravian Church celebrated its 100th
anniversary in 1996. The congregation is grateful to God
for his many blessings and guidance in the past. As we go
forward into a second century, the members of Christ Moravian
Church look forward to greater service in his kingdom here in
West Salem and in the larger community.
