Traveling a Lenten Journey

Have you ever found yourself stuck in the desert?

In one of his parables, David Griebner tells the story of a man who wondered aimlessly for years in a desert (The Carpenter and the Unbuilder). Everyday was the same. And everyday had the same outcome, because he insisted on following his shadow. It was only when he turned to face the sun, and follow it, that he finally found his way out of the desert.

Lent offers us the opportunity to check our direction and purpose. Are you following your shadow (old habits and patterns) or are you following the light of our Lord’s leading?

For many folks, the travel through Lent involves giving up something. But shouldn’t it be more?

What if Lent was more about setting aside focused time each day for prayer, reflection, reading your Bible, and similar things to check your focus?

If you have ever been on a long hike in a terrain like the desert, you know it is important to frequently verify your location and direction. Above all, Lent offers a time for doing as much with a spiritual outlook.

I hope you will make worship a priority this month as we seek to verify our focus on following the Son.
